I find it hard to believe that whenever alcohol and sex are mentioned in the same statement, the former is to blame. Is alcohol really the culprit in these cases? Doesn’t it just lower inhibitions and cause some to act on previously repressed desires? People are responsible for their own actions, from putting questionable liquids into their cups to engaging in situations that may have unfortunate endings. I’m not campaigning the notion that alcohol is the only substance able to make a sane person do crazy things, I’m just suggesting that people own up when it’s proper.
I was recently told an anecdote regarding a friend of a friend. This friend was at a party where everyone was having a grand time being rancorous and drunk. He was lucky enough to be involved in a drunken threesome with two (drunk) girls. So everyone was drunk, yea? Some time after this randy party, one of the girls accuses him of date-rape, claiming that he had taken advantage of her lowered inhibitions. His rebuttal? “I was drunk too!” So is it really anyone’s fault? Is she right in being angry, even though all parties involved were under the influence? Mind you, I’ve only heard the story from his point of view, so I have no idea how the two girls felt about the situation. Though now, I’m certain the retelling would lean more towards a biased version of events, seen thorough angrily colored lenses.
What say you?
